Prince Edward County - County-licious

We weren't sure until last minute if we were going to do the County-licious meal thing but we ended up deciding Friday night we would. The whole idea of County-licious is that restaurants put together a three course meal for 30-35$ and you go and enjoy an exquisite meal. Armed with ten menus from local restaurants we selected three menus we liked the best. Of course leaving it so late we ended up taking our fourth choice. Now the obvious - book ahead if you want to get a reservation - yup it's a no brainer. Anyway, we ened up at the Carriage House.

I had the Rabbit appetizer followed by the braised beef brisket with red wine sauce and parsley potatoes and vanilla pot de creme for dessert. Charlene had the leek and potato puree with caramelized onions and alpindon cheese, pan roasted salmon fillet lemon hollandaise potato rosti, daily cheese selection with crostini and chutney for dessert.

My verdict - well mine was mixed. The rabbit was very good as was the pasta - however mixed in with the lean rabbit strips were chunks of meat that were pretty fatty, the brisket was good - well half of it was the other half was one big chunk of fat, the parsnips still had the stems on them and were under cooked and there were two potatoes on my plate. The dessert well the top was burnt so most of the time that is what I tasted. Over all the meal did show flares of greatness but failed in being consistent from one bite to the next.

Charlene fared much better with a delicious leek and potato appetizer that really hit the mark and the cheese and onion were perfect and not over powering - I tasted it too and it was really good. The main was good too. C is not a fan of salmon but she loved this - it was really tasty and I really enjoyed the soft flavours too. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The cheese dessert - was just that nothing really extraordinary the chutney was tasty. Overall Charlene really enjoyed her experience, probably the downside was watching me have such a poor experience with mine!
